To say ‘thank you’, we’re giving you priority access to some exciting opportunities within PGL. 12 month secondment to PGL Australia

A truly once-in-a-lifetime experience! Head down under and join the team at one of our three Australian centres in one of the following positions:

  • AIGL
  • Catering Assistant / Cook (hybrid role)
  • Maintenance Assistant

Your secondment will run from January to December 2024, and upon completion you’ll have the opportunity to travel and explore Australia for four weeks before returning to your UK centre in February 2025.

Summer Season in France

Experience living and working on the continent with a summer secondment to Domaine de Segries in Southern France, in one of the following roles:

  • Housekeeping / Retail Team Leader & Administrator
  • Centre Support Assistant
  • River Representative (must be a UK qualified paddler)
  • Group Leader (ideally with a paddle background)

These opportunities will commence in April 2024 in preparation for the season starting in May. The season will run for three months, after which you’ll return to your UK centre for the rest of the 2024 season.

European Winter Ski Experience

Can you ski or snowboard? If so, don’t miss this opportunity to become a Ski Rep, accompanying groups for 1-2 week ski/snowboard experiences. There will be a number of trips running from December 2023 through to April 2024 as follows:

  • Pre Christmas – approx. 15th – 23rd Dec
  • Early Jan – approx. 5th – 13th Jan
  • Main half term week –  approx. 9th  – 17th Feb
  • Smaller half term week – approx. 16th – 24th Feb
  • Smaller Easter week – approx. 22nd – 30th March
  • Main Easter week – approx. 29th Mar – 6th April 

You will also be required to attend a training weekend on 11 – 12th November at Liddington alongside the assessment morning mentioned above.

Kick-start a career in teaching English

This is your chance to gain an internationally recognised CELTA qualification (funded by us) and teach English to our guests from overseas.

  • 4 week training courses running Jan-Feb and Feb-March ’24
  • Season runs May-September ’24
  • Combined AIGL/EFL role
  • Approx. 70% teaching and 30% course preparation work

Become an Activity Specialist

Do you hold any PGL activity or nationality recognised qualifications? You could be ideal for an Activity Specialist role, a full 2024 season opportunity.

  • Available at various centres across the UK
  • 60% running activities to guests, 40% delivering colleague training

  • Can I apply for more than one opportunity?

    Absolutely! Please apply for all opportunities that interest you.

  • What will the Assessment Morning consist of?

    The Assessment Morning will consist of various activities and challenges, designed to help us see how you work within a team, measure your ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking and view how you tackle various work-based scenarios. 

  • When and where are the Assessment Mornings?

    These assessment mornings are scheduled for 

    — 2nd October at PGL Liddington (provisional location) 

    — 3rd October at PGL Caythorpe Court (provisional location) 

    — 9th October at PGL Caythorpe Court (provisional location) 

    — 10th October at PGL Liddington (provisional location)

     

    The assessment mornings will run from 10am to 1pm.  

  • Will PGL cover the cost of travel to the assessment morning?

    Yes, we will cover reasonable travel and accommodation expenses. Please discuss this with the Resourcing Team once you have received your invite to the Assessment Morning.

  • Will PGL cover my visa and flight costs?

    AUSTRALIA

    On completion of your secondment in December 2024 you will have the opportunity to travel for 4 weeks returning to your centre in the UK in February half term 2025. PGL will pay for and organise your flights and work visa.  Please note however, that if you do not return to your UK role as expected you will need to repay 100% of the costs incurred (flights and visa) in enabling your secondment.  This amount reduces to 50% should you return to the UK and commence work but not complete your full UK contract. To secure a 417 Working Holiday Visa, you will need to be 18- 30 years old (or 35 years old for some countries including the UK) and have AUD$5,000 in savings.   

    FRANCE

    Non EU or EEA nationals will be required to apply for a visa and work permit. PGL will pay for and organise your flights and work visaPlease note however, that if you do not return to your UK role as expected you will need to repay 100% of the costs incurred (flights and visa) in enabling your secondmentThis amount reduces to 50% should you return to the UK and commence work but not complete your full UK contract 

  • Do I need any qualifications to be able to join the CELTA programme?

    The entry requirement for CELTA is that you are a proficient English language user (from CEFR Level C1 [eg English to a minimum C/5 at GCSE] or IELTS Band 7 and above) and that you have the minimum number of UCAS points (112 points) to access further education, gained across any A-level or BTech subject. (or equivalent). 

  • When and where is the CELTA training?

    If you are successful in joining the CELTA programme, you’ll complete a four-week intensive training course at International House in Torquay. For the duration of the course you’ll stay at nearby Barton Hall. There are two courses running in 2024:

     

    — Course 1: 12th January – 9th February

    — Course 2: 22nd February – 22nd March

     

  • Am I required to repay the cost of my CELTA training?

    If you complete your 2024 contract with PGL, you will not be required to repay any of the training cost.

    If you leave part way through your contract you will be required to pay back 50% of the cost. If you leave PGL after completing the training, but before starting in the role, you are required to repay 100% of the training cost.

  • Will I get to choose which Australian centre I am based at?

    No, the Australia team will decide which centre you’ll be working from… but don’t worry, they are all AMAZING!

  • Do I need to able to Ski or Snowboard to become a Ski Rep?

    Yes, you’ll need be be a confident skier or snowboarder to become a PGL Ski Rep. You’ll also receive lift passes to enjoy your free time on the slopes!

  • Can I do a shorter secondment in Australia?

    No, due to the cost of visas and travel you must be able to complete the full 12 month secondment to Australia.

  • Can I send these opportunities to my colleagues?

    No, at this time these opportunities are exclusively for PGL colleagues that have been identified as ‘surpassing performance’.

  • I'm not interested in any of these opportunities, am I still able to progress my career?

    Should you not wish to pursue one of these options, that’s okay. You will still have plenty of opportunity to develop your career and for PGL to invest in you through your 1:1s and Personal Development Plan with your line manager.  We also recommend that you join the internal vacancy community on Viva Engage where you will be kept up to date with the latest vacancies.
