Once the Earth Centre, now a buzzing hub of outdoor fun, Dearne Valley was transformed in 2012 into a state-of-the-art activity centre. Set in the stunning South Yorkshire countryside, it’s packed with indoor and outdoor facilities, a purpose-built water sports lake, and direct access to the River Don.
And when it comes to adventure, this centre does it right. Dearne Valley is one of the UK’s most eco-friendly centres, powered by one of Europe’s largest solar panels and its own water treatment plant.
As a new centre to the PGL family, it’s an exciting time to join the team at Dearne Valley. Whether you want to work outdoors with children, aspire to become a Head Chef, or are interested in forging a career in one of our many specialisms, there’s something to suit everyone at this diverse centre… and plenty of opportunities to progress and develop your career.

Daily essentials are close at hand with supermarkets and retail parks in Barnsley and Rotherham, plus plenty of pubs, restaurants, and cafés for dining out. There’s lots to do locally: explore RSPB Old Moor nature reserve, enjoy walks or cycling on the Trans Pennine Trail, or visit historic sites like Conisbrough Castle and Wentworth Woodhouse. For outdoor fun, Manvers Lake offers water sports and family activities. Living here means enjoying green spaces and a friendly community while staying connected to vibrant towns and cities.
No car? No problem! Dearne Valley is just around the corner from Conisburgh Train Station, making getting there easy and great for the environment.

They say that each of us has an art – and at Dearne Valley, inspiring young people is the art we practice every day. I love coming to work to help them paint their own masterpiece.
Lyn, Catering Assistant
This is my second season after working in the kitchen for a care home, and I’ve loved every moment. The team here is brilliant – we all pull together as one. It can be busy and sometimes stressful, but I really enjoy the challenge and the support around me. You learn so much from others, and with a little help you can get stuck in even without previous experience. I’m already hoping to come back next year!
Joe, Activity Instructor
So many young people spend more time on their phones than outdoors these days, so being able to give them the chance to enjoy activities outside is insanely good. I truly believe that when kids come to PGL, they grow in confidence, boost their sense of self, and leave with a real lift to their mental health.

I found my role through the Job Centre and travel in by train for my shifts – the train station is literally next door. I work 20 hours a week around my son, which really suits me. The job keeps me busy – whether it’s maintaining rooms or folding sheets – and the best part is when the kids see you and give you the biggest grin. It makes it all worthwhile.
