Ross, General Manager

As the new GM of Newby, Im really hoping you’ll join me and chose this centre to start your PGL career! My previous career in the Armed Forces has shown me first-hand the positive and lasting impact that outdoor adventure has on people. I feel privileged to be part of a brilliant team bringing opportunities to young people, working together to shape the future of our flagship Centre.

After a full career in the Armed Forces, being a ‘Newbie’ at Newby has given be a great opportunity to continue my adventure. No two days are the same as we strive to provide the very best for our colleagues and guests. From accommodation to kayaks, woodland to classrooms…. my office is more than four walls.

Since 2018, I have worked at various centres up and down the country before landing at Newby Wiske Hall. Now, as an AIGL Team Leader, I carry a goal with me that I had from the start; to help and support our colleagues to be the best they can be and follow in the footsteps of Team Leaders who helped me get to where I am today. I gain so much pride from watching our instructors grow in every aspect of their role and in return providing great experiences for our guests.

John, Catering Manager

I have nearly 20 years’ experience in catering and started with PGL over 10 years ago and moved to Newby in January 2024. We always want to ensure we are enriching young people’s lives with our menu and dining room experience. It is not just about getting the guests, and you re-fuelled for the everyday adventure of PGL, but creating an experience both guests and colleagues will never forget.

My PGL journey began as an Activity Instructor in 2016 to People Admin and now People & Culture Officer at Newby Wiske Hall. I am here to ensure that from the moment you are successful in your interview to everyday after that you are happy, looked after and enjoy each and every moment at PGL. I aim to ensure everyday you feel supported and create long lasting memories that you will cherish for a life time. Here at Newby Wiske Hall we are a fun and encouraging team who will support you on your entire PGL journey, wherever that may take you!
