Ross-on-Wye
On the edge of the Chase Woodlands, just outside the market town of Ross-on-Wye, you’ll find Alton Court – our PGL Support Centre. From here, we work with our activity centres, across the UK and France, to provide unforgettable outdoor adventures.
As offices go, this one is hard to beat: surrounded by stunning countryside, riverside walks, and woodland trails – yet only five minutes from the M50, with easy access from Hereford, Gloucester, and surrounding areas.
At Alton Court, our welcoming culture brings together a hardworking team who are passionate about creating outdoor learning experiences that have a long-lasting, positive impact for as many young people as possible.
Employing over 250 colleagues in a variety of departments, Alton Court has roles to suit all abilities and experience levels. We value flexibility, so offer a variety of contracts with office based, hybrid and fully remote options available. We will prioritise your professional growth with tailored career development opportunities, mentorship programs and ongoing training.
Come and join us at Alton Court, and become part of the place where it all began! Just a short stroll from the town centre, you’ll have shops, cafés, and local amenities right on your doorstep – plus the stunning River Wye, where Peter Gordon Lawrence founded PGL over 65 years ago. You’ll quite literally be working at the heart of our story.
There’s always something going on at Alton Court. From colleague‑organised quizzes and running or fitness clubs to charity bake‑offs, fundraising events, and even a lunchtime D&D club, there’s plenty to get involved in – whatever you’re into.
On top of that, you’ll have access to some great colleague facilities, including a comfy colleague lounge, a lunchtime visit from the food van, a free on‑site gym, free parking, and EV charging (at competitive rates).
Henry, Sales Support Coordinator
I joined PGL in 2015, drawn by my passion for the outdoors, tourism, and connecting with people from different cultures. What sets PGL apart is the genuine support and training offered to help you thrive, and the feeling of being valued as an individual — not just a number. Since joining, I’ve progressed to Tour Coordinator Specialist, worked across three departments, and built strong relationships with a wide range of customers and stakeholders. The flexibility around childcare, remote working, and great perks like the gym are fantastic — but it’s the positive, engaging culture and the people that truly make PGL a great place to work.
Olivia, Sales Executive
I really enjoy working in sales for PGL because it allows me to build fantastic relationships with schools and support them to create life-changing experiences for their pupils. Every conversation is different, keeping the role fast paced and exciting in a buzzy sales environment, whilst also working alongside like-minded teammates celebrating each other’s wins. There is something incredibly rewarding about knowing that the trip I helped organise could be the highlight of a child’s primary school journey. Working in PGL sales isn’t just a job – we help to shape unforgettable moments that make a real impact on young people’s lives.
Liz, Brand Manager
I joined PGL in 2019 as a Marketing Assistant and am now Senior Brand Manager overseeing our Consumer and Youth marketing. My role has so much variety, mainly acting as the key contact to link commercial, marketing, operations and product, driving growth and ultimately enabling the delivery of amazing experiences for young people across our markets. I really enjoy building relationships across the business and the combination of creativity and project management that is required in my job. Our mission at PGL Beyond is why I joined and why I love working here – we’re all working towards one goal – bringing life changing adventures to as many young people as possible.
Tom, Digital Learning Specialist
I work in our Digital Learning and Projects Team, part of People Development. My work is wide ranging- from day-to-day maintenance of Learning Management System, Strive, to delivering online and face-to-face training and working with colleagues from around our business to continually improve the systems that we work with. I joined PGL four years ago, having been a secondary school teacher for 8 years. As a teacher, I was very aware of who PGL were and what they offered, and when I was presented with the opportunity to work with our amazing colleagues and help them upskill, improve and grow their careers at PGL, I jumped at the chance. I haven't looked back! The best thing about working for PGL in my opinion is the very clear mission- to support the development of young people. Everyone is pulling in the same direction, everyone is here because this is something they believe in.
